A conversation with LST Logistics’ Georgia Operations Manager AJ Scowden

Tell me about your company, your role in the company and how long you’ve worked there

LST Logistics (LST) is a division of Lone Star Transportation. Our division was created in 2019, and prior to that, we were Schilli Distribution, a company that was privately owned for 50 years. I have been with LST for approximately six years, starting at our Indiana location before moving to Savannah to run the Georgia operations.

LST has several locations in the Southeast. How many warehouses do you have here?

LST has three warehouses in Savannah located on Gulfstream Road, Crossgate Road and Jimmy DeLoach Parkway. Our other Southeast operations are located in Griffin, Ga.

Where is LST headquartered and how many locations exist nationwide? Is LST global/regional/local?

LST Logistics is headquartered in Lafayette, Inidiana, and our parent company, Lone Start Transportation, is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. We have several offices nationwide, but our primary offices are in Texas, Indiana and Georgia.

What type of services do you offer? And what is unique about the way you offer those services?

We are a full-service transportation and warehouse provider. We have a large presence in the oversize, over-the-road flatbed/RGN community and we continue to expand our customer base with each year that passes. On the warehouse side, our inside Foreign-Trade Zone has seen growth in 2020, expanding from 35,000 square feet to nearly 90,000 square feet. Our exterior Foreign-Trade Zone is also expanding, reaching nearly 40 acres.

What is your favorite part about working at LST?

I love working at LST because of the continued opportunity for exposure to new processes and new customers. I really enjoy new challenges, and while transportation and warehousing as a whole can provide interesting hurdles, the fact that we are opening ourselves up to new customers with different challenges is something that I really look forward to.

Tell us about your Foreign-Trade Zone and how you service companies.

Our Foreign-Trade Zone is zoned as “general purpose” and we have the pleasure of being able to directly receive and ship our customers’ materials in several ways. Whether it be by container, flatbed, RGN, flat-track or van, we can handle it all. We also have container movers on-site should the customer choose to store a container without a chassis for a period of time. Our flexibility and customization options make us an ideal choice for our current customers.

What impact does your company have on the local/regional/national/international economy?

Some of the customers we deal with have a large impact on the national and international market. We certainly do our part to ensure that they can keep doing theirs.

What services or products do you offer specific to companies importing or exporting?

LST Logistics is a full-service, end-to-end provider. We offer transportation (including drayage), warehousing and logistical planning in the Savannah area. We have some customers that only import or export and we have others who do both. We are pleased to be able to service all requests without having to contract any work out.

LST has been a partner for seven years. What has been the most valuable part of this business relationship?

Shared knowledge is huge for us. The ability to call on World Trade Center Savannah and ask a quick question or something a bit more in-depth is always helpful. And on that note, one of our goals for 2021 is to maximize our partnership in other areas as well so that we are utilizing one another’s resources and services to the best of our ability.
