What is D. J. Powers?
D. J. Powers is an international logistics provider, offering global transportation and compliance services to clients around the world. We were founded in 1930, making us Georgia’s oldest Custom House Broker and Freight Forwarder, and are still headquartered in Savannah.

D. J. Powers provides a full range of global supply chain services that can be tailored to fit any client’s needs. These services are supported by our 88 years of logistics and compliance expertise in US and International government regulations, with a strong emphasis on communications throughout the supply chain process. D. J. Powers’ experience and global presence provides customers with logistics flexibility to keep supply chains relevant to current market changes, while providing real-time measurement reporting to ensure goals are achieved.

What type of services do you offer?
Transportation Services via all modes – Ocean, Air, Trucking, Rail; Customs Clearance and Compliance; Government Agency Compliance Services (FDA, EPA, USDA, etc);

Freight Forwarding and Export Compliance, Foreign Country Customs Clearance and Supply Chain Services; Foreign Freight Forwarding and Compliance, Door-to-Door Logistics Service, Project Shipments and Specialized Cargoes, Warehousing and Distribution. We specialize in Chemicals, Manufactured Products, Minerals and Commodities. We also specialize in Foreign-Trade Zones.

Who is your ideal customer/client?
Our ideal customer is anyone currently involved in international trade and shipping, as well as companies new to the global marketplace that are looking to grow their international sales and/or manufacturing or supplier base.

Where else do you have operations?
D. J. Powers operates seven offices in the United States (Savannah, Atlanta, Brunswick, GA; Charleston, S.C.; Charlotte, N.C.; Memphis, TN and Norfolk, VA), a European office (D. J. Powers BV) in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and three Asian offices in China (Ningbo, Shenzhen and Shanghai). We also have a membership network of more than 175 affiliated offices worldwide, so we can offer hands-on experience in all locations globally.

What makes Coastal Georgia a great location for your business?
Georgia is the heart of D. J. Powers with three office locations in the state. Savannah is where it all began for D. J. Powers and it’s a great location being near the fourth busiest container port in the United States, Georgia Ports Authority. Our Brunswick office specializes in roll-on/roll-off cargoes, and the GPA port in Brunswick has world class facilities and ocean services for these cargoes. Our Atlanta office is located a short distance from the Atlanta airport, and we operate our own bonded warehouse along with our other services, so we can provide clients with complete cargo handling services for air freight.

Thus Georgia provides us the ability to offer customers complete transportation services with facilities and infrastructure second to none.

Coastal Georgia provides a business friendly environment, a wonderful network of maritime companies and services with whom we partner daily, a reasonable cost of living which benefits our company as well as our employees, and a beautiful city and surrounding environment. It is a wonderful place to work and fabulous place to live.

How did you learn about WTCSav?
We have been involved with WTCSav since its inception and continue to be an active member.

Describe you experience with WTCSav.
WTCSav regularly offers informative and educational programs, as well as meetings with foreign businesses and dignitaries. We benefit tremendously from these programs, and also assist WTCSav by participating as presenters in events for their clients. They have done a wonderful job of promoting Savannah to the world, and also for bringing more of the world to Savannah.

Do you have any specific examples of how WTCSav assisted in growing your business?
Our experience in participating in WTCSav’s Global Education Programs (as attendees and presenters) has given us opportunities to gain additional customers and increase our sales. We also participated in the recent reception WTCSav sponsored for the delegation from the Netherlands, where we have an office. This was a great opportunity to meet port and airport officials with whom we work daily.

What advice do you have for other companies that are considering expanding through global markets?
With a global reach and world class IT capabilities, D. J. Powers provides the ability for customers and potential customers to better compete in world markets and thus take advantage of opportunities in international markets to grow and expand beyond their local markets. It’s important to offer global opportunities to businesses, because this in return creates additional jobs, diversifies revenue and increases profits, while promoting their businesses in the global marketplace. D. J. Powers offers 88 years of experience and local presence in overseas markets to assist companies in understanding the nuances of business in foreign countries, and we use our depth of expertise to overcome roadblocks and avoid pitfalls that often prevent companies from success in their international efforts.
